After the announcement of Fisichella’s recruitment at Ferrari, Luca Badoer accused the media of causing him to lose the seat of Massa’s F60, who is still recovering.
Giancarlo Fisichella has been chosen to drive at Monza and for the rest of the season, following Badoer’s poor performances in Valencia and Spa, where he was the slowest and finished last in each race.
The 28-year-old Italian lost his cool with a British journalist during a press conference in Belgium and stated that the media – including those who nicknamed him “Look how bad you are” – have been the worst aspect of his return to F1 under difficult circumstances.
Those who write do not understand how much damage they can cause. The media played a fundamental role in the decision to replace me, stated Badoer to the Italian newspaper Gazzetta Sportiva.
He also states that he would have been much better at Monza, one of his favorite and more familiar tracks, and criticizes the F1 regulations that seriously limit private testing: «These rules prevent a reserve driver from conducting tests and make him a victim, this only happens in Formula 1.»
Ferrari has already announced that Fisichella will be the new reserve driver in 2010, and Badoer, who became the team’s test driver in the late 1990s, recently revealed that his contract will end at the end of this year.
“My intention is to stay,” added Badoer. “I am finished with racing but my relationship with Ferrari continues.”
