Romain Grosjean has apparently taken an additional step towards a probable mid-season appointment within the Renault F1 Team, as he drove the R29 this week during straight-line tests.
The test took place on the track at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, in Cambridgeshire.
After the recent exchange of statements between Flavio Briatore and Nelsinho Piquet, revealing the state of their relationship (see the article here), this new information further supports the idea of Piquet being replaced by the Franco-Swiss, currently the third driver of the French team.
Romain Grosjean, a driver for the Renault Driver Development for several years, won the F3 Euroseries championship in 2007, previously won by Hamilton in 2005. Integrated into the F1 team during the winter of 2007-2008, he then won the GP2 Asia series and finished 4th in the main GP2 series. Initially considered to replace Piquet at the end of 2008, he ultimately continued in GP2, where he currently holds the second position, behind Hülkenberg, a reserve driver for Williams F1.
