Scuderia Ferrari did not experience significant improvements during the German Grand Prix qualifying, but they fared relatively well with both cars in Q3. The objectives were modest before starting the qualifying session, given the very small gaps between the cars on this circuit.
With Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen in 8th and 9th place on the starting grid, Ferrari hopes to score big points with both cars for the race. But the challenge will be significant with competitors at the front of the grid and especially with weather conditions that may change, making track management crucial for the result at the finish.
Felipe Massa – 3rd and 8th:
This qualification was a bit like a lottery: first dry conditions, then rain, then dry again. It could have been better, but it could also have been worse. I’m not crazy happy with this 8th place, but it’s not so bad. We have a good strategy to allow us to aim for points, although a podium seems difficult to achieve, to be honest.
Kimi Räikkönen – 6th and 9th:
It was a rather complicated session, with constantly changing track conditions. That’s why it’s difficult to say if the result reflects the true level of the teams. Clearly, we were penalized by not having any new tires for Q3. I believe that under normal conditions, we could have had a better position on the grid. That being said, we are not in such a bad position for the race: we have a good strategy and we will try to make the most of it.
Stefano Domenicali – Team Principal:
«Finally, considering the changing weather conditions, it is a reasonable result. Having both our cars in Q3 was our main goal. It was not so obvious, because all the teams, except those fighting for the title, are really very close, and there are also some teams that seem to have made significant improvements and have improved. Tomorrow’s race could also be uncertain because of the weather; realistically, we want to have both our drivers finish in the points, and we will have to seize any opportunities that may arise. »
