With a fresh perspective on Formula 1, Sébastien Buemi has predicted truly difficult times for the three new teams that will be on the grid next year.

USF1, a new entity, along with the competition teams from lower formulas, Campos and Manor, are the ones chosen to enter the private circle of F1 in 2010.

The 20-year-old driver, the only rookie this year, comes from the GP2 pipeline and, with support from Red Bull, has joined one of the smallest teams on the grid, Toro Rosso. However, the Swiss driver believes that making the step to a new team will be even more daunting.

“For the new teams, it will be really difficult because the jump to Formula 1 is so huge,” the driver told Auto Motor und Sport. “It’s a different world. If it were simple, there would already be a lot more teams.”

The last independent team to join the grid was Super Aguri, with the support of Honda, but the story lasted only a little over two years before they threw in the towel due to a lack of financial resources. That said, one of the major motivators for teams to join F1 is the joint project by the FIA and FOTA to drastically reduce operating costs.
