Nick Fry, head of Brawn GP, believes that Rubens Barrichello deserves to win Grand Prix this year even though he has only beaten Jenson Button once in the first eight races of the season.
The 37-year-old Brazilian is 2nd in the championship after accumulating 41 points, which is 23 less than his British teammate. Fry believes that the hard work and dedication of the record-holder for the number of Grand Prix raced should be rewarded with a victory.
“We have been delighted with Rubens [Barrichello]’s performance throughout this year,” says Fry to Autosport. “It would be great if we could see him on the top step of the podium. For someone who has been in the racing world for as long as he has, his level of motivation is incredible. He can be proud of himself.”
Fry is also confident that Button will return to conquer the top positions after finishing 6th at the British Grand Prix 2 weeks ago:
« Jenson’s position at Silverstone is explained by his overly smooth driving style. The car struggled to manage tire temperature. Jenson suffered more than Rubens. »
The Sao Paulo native sees Sebastian Vettel, his direct competitor for the title, getting closer to him. A victory for Barrichello at the next Grand Prix would reignite the Brazilian’s chances for the title. And to think that the one nicknamed “Rubinho” wasn’t supposed to participate at the start of this season…
