Red Bull’s performances this year have not gone unnoticed. David Coulthard would not disagree. He believes he left F1 one season too early. Despite the success of his successor Sebastian Vettel, Coulthard claims in Scotland’s Daily Record that he could have kept up with the pace of 2009.
« In a high-pressure sport, you have to be able to recover and give your all every time. I was wondering if I still had the energy to do it. » He said.
This year’s regulations are very different for test drivers. Today, a 3-week break means a vacation period. In previous years, test drivers worked much more. The total ban on testing has changed a lot of things.
« I’m almost sure I would have had the necessary energy to manage a season, » continues the young retiree.
However, the 13-time Grand Prix winner insists that he does not regret hanging up his helmet.
« I felt that Red Bull had good solutions and it was better to recognize that it was time to go, » he said.
Coulthard now travels to each race as an expert for British television and acknowledges having benefited from his four seasons in the Red Bull cockpit.
« There are midfield teams that remain in the midfield. With other people, I helped positively influence the development of Red Bull. They moved forward and progressed each year. » Declares Coulthard.
