All the teams commit for 2010!

As planned, all FOTA member teams have submitted their applications to participate in next year’s F1 world championship, “under certain conditions.” The deadline was last night at midnight, and FOTA ultimately waited until the last day to start the registrations.

The alliance of teams, however, requested that new Concorde Agreements (contract between the FIA, the FOM, the holder of commercial rights, and the FOTA) be signed before the publication of the list of entrants for 2010. They also insist that the FIA must consider the cost reduction measures submitted by the teams before unilaterally publishing regulations as was the case in late April.

«The FOTA confirms the long-term commitment of its members to the championship and has unanimously accepted some additional actions to significantly reduce the cost required to compete in the championship over the next three years.» can be read in a statement.

According to the FOTA, this will trigger a mechanism that will preserve technological competition and sporting challenge, while facilitating the entry of new teams into F1. These measures are in line with what was already decided in 2009 within the FOTA, with significant savings on engines and gearboxes.

All the members of FOTA committed to the 2010 championship under the following two conditions:

1- The Concorde Agreements are signed by all stakeholders before June 12, 2009, after which all FOTA teams will commit to racing in F1 until 2012. The renewal of the Concorde Agreements will bring security for the future of the sport by securing all parties in a formal relationship that will ensure stability with the governing bodies.

2- The basis of the 2010 regulations will be the current regulations in effect in 2009, in accordance with the proposals of the FOTA submitted to the FIA.

All the FOTA teams therefore committed yesterday to the 2010 championship by clearly setting things straight with, on one hand, racing under the same regulations as this year and ensuring these measures are accepted without concessions.

The ball is now in the court of the FIA and its president Max Mosley.
