Norbert Haug proposes a bailout plan for the budget cap

Norbert Haug has developed a possible solution to the budget cap problem, ahead of the registration deadline for the 2010 championship this Friday.

The manager of the German manufacturer highlighted his suggestions to the FIA, as well as to all the teams, for the review of the Mercedes Initiative.

With Toyota, Red Bull, Renault, and Ferrari having threatened to withdraw from the sport, and in the absence of an official agreement between the FOTA and the FIA, the Vice President of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport submitted his last-minute idea to Max Mosley, President of the FIA.

The Mercedes initiative, constructed by Haug, concerns the following elements:

«- A budget capped at 100 million Pounds Sterling for 2010.

With time running out for the teams regarding a decision on their registration for next year’s World Championship, the plan, if implemented at the last moment, is to see the current cap of 40 million Pounds Sterling postponed by a year with a significantly higher amount of 100 million Pounds Sterling allowed for the next season.

This plan, mentioned for the first time during the meetings in Monaco last weekend, was described to the newspaper The Times, by a source close to Mercedes with clarity and certainty.
