The future of Nico Hülkenberg in Formula 1 is not yet assured, according to Sir Frank Williams. The 21-year-old driver is one of the most promising young drivers, having won the A1GP championship in 2006/7 and the F3 Euroseries title last year.
Evolving this season for ART in GP2, he has been integrated into the Grove team for several years now, and this year he is the test and reserve driver. He obviously plans to become a full-time driver for Williams as early as next year.
When Auto Bild asks Frank Williams if Hülkenberg can consider a start in F1 in 2010, he replies « obviously, I can’t directly answer that question.
And in addition, the team director cannot avoid talking about the contract of his lead driver Nico Rosberg, which expires this year: a lot of things depend on what is going to happen with our other Nico. But Hülkenberg is on our list, absolutely.
The Toyota protege, Kazuki Nakajima, seems likely to retain his position next year with the English team, while Nico Rosberg, as we have mentioned, is increasingly being linked to McLaren Mercedes.
