The meeting between the FIA president, Max Mosley, and the F1 teams, with the presence of Bernie Ecclestone, is currently taking place in one of the conference rooms at the hotel’s London’s Heathrow airport.
But the man at the center of the debate, Lucas di Montezemolo, is not on site, despite the threats made on Tuesday to withdraw the Ferrari team from the competition. Montezemolo is also the president of FOTA, but the 61-year-old Italian remained in Italy, following the recent death of his father.
The director of the Ferrari team, Stefano Domenicali, therefore represents Ferrari in London, while John Howett (Toyota) takes over from Montezemolo in the role of FOTA director.
« We have always been in favor of budget capping, » declared Adam Parr, the executive director of Williams, at the hotel entrance, in front of the crowd of media present on site.
On the agenda for this Friday’s meeting is not only the issue of budget caps, but also the concerns of the teams about the overall governance of Formula 1.
