Fernando Alonso gave journalists a scare on Sunday, immediately after the Bahrain Grand Prix, when he briefly lost consciousness.
The Spaniard finished the race in eighth position in the stifling heat of the Sakhir circuit, but felt unwell while speaking to the media just after the finish.
The Renault team explained that Alonso was actually suffering from dehydration because the delivery of his drink in the car did not work during the 57 laps of the race. He was therefore unable to refresh himself for nearly 1 hour and 40 minutes, when the thermometer showed air temperatures close to 40°C!
« He suffered from dehydration upon exiting the car. But now he has fully recovered, » states a team press release.
Alonso was brief with the media, telling them he was fine: « We scored a point, and we need to improve for the next Grand Prix, » he said immediately after the race.
