Assessment: After Brawn GP, Red Bull is also living its dream

An exceptional 2009 season as, in just three races, a second team achieves a double victory having never won a Grand Prix before. Today in China, it’s Red Bull celebrating. Sebastian Vettel did not take long to deliver a victory to the Austrian team. Following Saturday’s pole, it’s the German’s second victory that makes a strong impression today.

Marc Webber secures the second place, which allows Red Bull to score 18 points and climb to the second spot in the constructors’ standings. This 2009 season is well and truly underway; now we just have to wait for Ferrari, Renault, and BMW to bounce back with pride, and the celebration will be complete!

Sebastian Vettel – 1st:

« It’s incredible, I am so, so happy. Ten laps before the end, I tried to control the gap with the cars behind and adjust my pace. I tried to keep everything under control, but it was difficult. »

« In the last two laps I backed off a bit because I didn’t want to aquaplane. It’s just fantastic. A second race victory, one with Toro Rosso and one with Red Bull, which makes me very happy. I hope we can continue to work in this direction, I am extremely proud and happy. It was an excellent job from Red Bull. I want to say a big thank you to everyone, everyone worked hard, so thank you to the team. »

Mark Webber – 2nd:

« It’s an incredible day for the team, you have no idea what the guys did last night. It’s incredible to have this double and getting the maximum points is unheard of. This comes after a tough race in Malaysia. It’s a great day for the team from Milton Keynes, congratulations and thanks to them.

« It was a difficult race at certain moments! It was hard to follow the cars with the spray. After the second safety car, I had a great stint with Jenson [Button]. When he got ahead of me again, I wanted to win the race, so I gave it my all to overtake him. It was one of the best moves of my career. I am happy today! »

Christian Horner – Team Principal:

« An excellent result for the Red Bull team. It’s proof of all the efforts and hard work that Red Bull and Mateschitz put into Formula 1. I want to thank Red Bull and everyone in Milton Keynes, who worked so hard for this. It’s just an incredible result. We have a great car, a great team, great drivers, a unique diffuser, and we have a bright future. »
