Toro Rosso is currently the 4th strongest team in the championship, tied on points with BMW and Renault; who would have thought? The team regularly scores points and with this disrupted championship manages to stand out. Buemi scores points once again and represents ¾ of those accumulated by his team. He delivers a solid race despite a broken wing in the middle of the race.
The Swiss finishes eighth, with several spins to his name. Bourdais also did several spins and could have finished the race in the points. He still finishes 11th, behind Alonso and Räikkönen. And yet, Franz Tost already seems to be shunning Bourdais. He hasn’t mentioned him in his comments for two races. The Frenchman also gets the 5th fastest lap in the race (See the Live table).
Sébastien Buemi – 8th:
« I am very happy with the work done by the team and with this point that rewards it. I am also very pleased to have scored points twice in three races. I might have done better, but I am still satisfied with that. »
We were very competitive in the first stint, and I was able to pass Räikkönen and Hamilton, but I struggled a bit more afterwards. I had an incident with Vettel. While we were under the Safety Car, I didn’t see him early enough, he was quite slow, and as a result, I hit him. It broke my front wing, but I’m happy not to have ruined his race…
Sébastien Bourdais – 11th:
« I started 15th and finished 11th despite two spins. My feelings are mixed, I don’t think we should have raced because there was far too much aquaplaning. The fact that cars have much less downforce makes the situation worse because it’s difficult to keep the car on the surface of the track. I could have spun 15 or 20 times and Sutil’s accident showed what could happen. The positive side is that it was probably a good show for the fans. »
Franz Tost – Director:
« First of all, congratulations to Red Bull Racing. Congratulations on their work and this superb double. As for us, we managed to score another point with Buemi who had a good race in difficult conditions today. It was only the third race of the season, but we will arrive in Bahrain in a rather optimistic state of mind. »
