Saturday: Red Bull is in seventh heaven!

Unlike McLaren, not many people were betting on the Red Bull team after the morning practice as Vettel and Webber were only 15th and 16th. With several issues, very few laps had been completed.

However, the team almost achieved what Brawn GP did in Australia. A front row with both drivers from the same team. Only Fernando Alonso came to disrupt Webber’s plans, who finished third, while Vettel achieved the second pole position of his career but the first for the Austrian team. A great race in prospect.

Sebastian Vettel – 15th and 1st:

« I am very, very happy, it’s incredible. It was the last minute! I only did one run in each qualifying session, but as you can see, you don’t need more! It was difficult, we had a problem with the car and we had to run it as little as possible. The car was very fast but Mark was better than me in every session. Nevertheless, if you only have one lap, you can’t make any mistakes. »

I’m very happy with this first pole position! This morning wasn’t ideal, but it seems the less I race in the morning, the better I am in qualifying! A big thank you to the mechanics, who worked very, very hard, even at night, and thanks to the whole team at Milton Keynes. We did it! I can’t wait for tomorrow, it’s a long race and there’s a long way to go, but we have the best starting position.

Mark Webber – 16th and 3rd:

What a result! The work has finally paid off after these past few weeks. It would have been fabulous to have two cars on the front row, but Fernando Alonso did an excellent job. We will see the fuel loads for tomorrow. We did a good job. Q2 went very well and the car was behaving well, with lots of grip.

Christian Horner – Team Principal:

« A fantastic team result with this first pole position brilliantly achieved by Sebastian. From a good strategy, everything is going well and thanks to today, he will start tomorrow with the best position! Mark also had a very good session. I am delighted with the performance and the efforts made to date, not only here in Shanghai, but also in Milton Keynes. The whole team has worked very hard. Tomorrow will be a great day! »
