USF1 could partner with Cosworth in 2010

The USF1 team, which plans to be on the starting grid next season, is seriously evaluating the possibility of using the standard Cosworth engine in 2010.

Although the team’s directors, Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor, announced at the team’s launch in February that they wanted to contact all the engine manufacturers on the grid, it now appears that a contract with Cosworth would be more suitable than a partnership with a factory team.

The engine decision is part of the complete renaissance that F1 is currently undergoing, recently stated Peter Windsor.

« The Cosworth engine is really an attractive proposition. It is FIA homologated and these people have done a good job in the past with Red Bull Racing before Red Bull suddenly switched to Renault. »

« A large number of people who were with Cosworth have left, but there are still very good elements who have stayed. This is of great interest to us. And more than anything, Cosworth is owned by an American, Kevin Kalkhoven, and that’s an additional plus for us. »

When asked if Cosworth is USF1’s preferred option, Peter Windsor responds: « I wouldn’t say preferred, but it’s really an option we are considering very, very seriously. »

Furthermore, the team’s name is still not definitive; after USF1, the name USGPE for “United States Grand Prix Engineering” was mentioned. Windsor reveals that the official name of the new team will be formalized in the coming weeks: « The name USF1 was a good brand name that Ken [Anderson] proposed. It’s a great name! […] Like everyone, we know that “F1” is a protected name, and we want to do things correctly. »

The team, which will most likely be based in the United States, has not yet revealed the names of the drivers for next year, although a few famous names of American racers have already been mentioned.
