A spokesperson for Ferrari confirmed that Michael Schumacher will not be traveling with the Scuderia for the Chinese and Bahrain Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion, aged 40, has been a quite active advisor to the Italian team since the start of the 2009 season. However, public criticism has spread concerning his strategic role. He allegedly performed his task poorly with multiple “blunders” made in Malaysia.
The chief executives met after the Sepang debacle for a crisis meeting in Maranello. Michael Schumacher was not present.
The team will therefore do without his services for rounds 3 and 4 of the championship.
« He will not be at these races, » said the spokesperson quoted by Bild.
Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo declared after his meeting on Tuesday that he was determined to ensure his team does not become the laughingstock of the public.
« I don’t want Ferrari to end up on some sort of comedy TV show after every race. »
