Ross Brawn is convinced that the unity of the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) will remain intact, despite the pressures being exerted on it with the diffuser issue.

The FOTA has always faced the challenge of keeping all its members united while the controversy over diffusers divides.

And Brawn, who heads the technical working group within FOTA, believes that the test concerning the diffusers shows that the organization can tackle disputes without the risk of separation.

« I am happy, the FOTA is still active, term after term, there are always objectives, » said the director of the Brawn GP team, whose diffuser is contested by five other teams.

« This has not, as far as I know, caused any damage within FOTA. We need to learn to work this way because when we’re on the track, there will be times when we are very angry with each other. »

« We must put aside the individual aspect and maintain this unity within FOTA. We are trying to do something that is good for the sport. »

« I draw a parallel with rugby. You go onto the field trying to take down the opposing team, then when you leave the stadium, you go have a beer together. You have to be able to separate these two areas. FOTA is able to do this, » continued the Briton.

« We must be able to hit the track even if an issue divides the teams. It’s part of the event, and we must tell ourselves: ‘We agree that our situation is not simple but we will work together to improve Formula 1 by becoming better’ ».

« If we do it and we seem to be able to do it, it means that the FOTA can work properly. »

The hearing of the FIA International Court of Appeal will meet next Tuesday in Paris to make a final decision on the legality of the diffusers.
