The first Renault F1 Team Roadshow of 2009 was marked by a violent accident today in Dubai.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, multiple time rally champion in the Middle East, lost control of the R28 he was driving in a straight-line race against Romain Grosjean, who was behind the wheel of a Ford GT.
The Renault R28 (last year’s car) crashed into the pit wall, causing significant damage to the front of the car, as well as tearing off the right rear wheel.
Ben Sulayem remained in the cockpit for a few minutes after his accident while stewards assisted him and eventually got him out without injury.
The Renault team had planned to continue this event in Dubai until April 12, but now it is not certain that the celebration will continue until the scheduled end.
