Räikkönen: The diffusers could decide the title

Kimi Räikkönen stated that the FIA’s decision regarding the diffuser will have a huge impact on the outcome of this season, especially in the title battle. The governing body will make this decision on April 14, a few days before the Chinese Grand Prix.

Ferrari did not score any points in Australia and Malaysia. The Finnish driver does not believe that the F60, with the current levels of downforce, can keep up with the pace of Brawn, Toyota, or Williams. These three teams have a double diffuser, which seems to make the difference.

« The FIA Court of Appeal will rule on the diffuser and this decision will have a huge impact on the championship, » thinks Räikkönen.

« At Ferrari, we lack grip and downforce. You just have to analyze the performance of the F60 in the three sectors at Sepang to understand that we were losing ground compared to the first car. »

« We need more support and we are working very hard to address this issue. We still haven’t scored a single point after two races, it’s a very difficult time. Of course, we’ve been through moments like this before and we know how to react in Shanghai, » continued the Scuderia driver.

Räikkönen believes that the KERS is an area where Ferrari can gain an advantage over its competitors. However, he added that the team is still looking to solve a number of issues with the device.

« The KERS is working very well, as we saw last Sunday. It can give a real advantage in China, but for now, we have always had a few minor problems like during the free practice sessions in Sepang. »

« On Friday, the cockpit filled with smoke, while on Sunday, water seeped in, leading to a loss of insulation. So I had to stop, » concluded Kimi Räikkönen.
