F1 in Flins is still relevant!

In an interview given yesterday on the regional news of France 3 Paris Île-de-France, Pierre Bédier wanted to reaffirm the viability of his Formula 1 circuit project in Flins, thus refuting the statements made by Jean-Louis Borloo the day before.

Yesterday, we informed you that the Minister of the Environment, Jean-Louis Borloo, spoke against the F1 project in Flins: Yvelines F1. The minister confirmed on BFM TV that the issue was resolved, indicating that there would be no new circuit in the Yvelines. (see the article for more information)

In the evening of April 7, Pierre Bédier, President of the Yvelines General Council, thus wanted to respond to Mr. Borloo by stating that the project was still alive and feasible.

« It should be noted that it is the role of the Minister of the Environment, and conversely, we have the support of the Minister of Sports. After that, it’s a matter for the authorities, and the Prime Minister will decide… » thus referring to Mr. Fillon’s interest in motorsports and particularly Formula 1.

« Flins never sought any assistance with the recovery plan and since the project was never included in it, it was not canceled… » He admits in response to the remarks of the environment minister.

« This project is strongly supported by the town halls of Flins and Les Mureaux, and they are including it in their local urban planning. Regarding the aquifer, which supplies 350,000 people and not 500,000, it will be completely waterproofed on the circuit grounds. Especially since there are already highways, factories, and other railway lines… »

« The project thus remains relevant » confirms Mr. Bédier.

The progress of the projects does not seem to be advancing, and no real information appears regarding a French Grand Prix in 2011, or even 2010. Things should indeed accelerate before the summer with the decision of the Prime Minister and the FIA favoring a particular project. Bernie Ecclestone will therefore also be involved.
