Official: McLaren summoned by the FIA World Council

It’s official, McLaren must appear before the World Motor Sport Council on April 29th to answer for its actions in the dark affair of lying about Lewis Hamilton’s disqualification from the Australian Grand Prix.

According to the FIA, the team deliberately misled the race stewards of the Melbourne Grand Prix during a hearing. This occurred a few hours after Jarno Trulli (Toyota) overtook Lewis Hamilton while the safety car was deployed.

The FIA announced on Tuesday that the team will have to be present in Paris before the World Council on the Wednesday following the Bahrain Grand Prix to respond to multiple accusations that violate Article 151c of the International Sporting Code.

This clause stipulates that the competitors are in violation of the regulations if there is « any fraudulent conduct or any act detrimental to the interests of the competition or the interests of motorsport in general. »

The FIA claims that McLaren violated the regulations on five charges.

McLaren has already admitted that Hamilton’s sporting director, Dave Ryan, lied to the stewards during the first hearing in Australia, and then during a second meeting on the eve of the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Ryan was suspended by the team while Hamilton issued a public apology after revealing that he had been advised by Ryan not to disclose the whole truth.

According to the FIA, it is possible that Hamilton will be called to testify about his involvement in this matter at the hearing at the end of April.

The father of the young Briton, Anthony Hamilton, who is also his manager, was in contact with the FIA president, Max Mosley, last week at the Malaysian Grand Prix. He reportedly stated that the repercussions of this affair were not over and that, above all, they were completely out of control.
