For several weeks, no information had been published about the future of the French Grand Prix of Formula 1. Various projects do not seem to be progressing, and now, the Yvelines F1 Project, launched by Pierre Bédier, President of the General Council of Yvelines, is said to have been abandoned.
Indeed, during a televised interview on BFM TV yesterday, the Minister of Ecology, Jean-Louis Borloo, clearly stated that the Formula 1 circuit planned in Flins in the Yvelines is no longer relevant. According to the minister, it is not sufficiently respectful of the environment.
« I fought against […] It was on catchment areas, for me this problem is solved. » Comments the minister. « Moreover, these are spaces reserved for water and for organic farming. I saw in a major daily newspaper that people were still against it, but the problem is solved. »
A few weeks ago, we learned that Lagardère was supporting this project over another. Last week, that Nicolas Hulot had opposed the project. This week, that the construction of a circuit in Flins is no longer on the agenda.
No statement has yet been released by the committee supporting the project. Nothing is official yet, but it seems that the 2011 French Grand Prix is not yet guaranteed…
Pierre Bedier will be interviewed tonight, Tuesday, by France 3. A denial might well be given.
