Assessment: No points this time for Toro Rosso

Just as a week ago in Australia, Scuderia Toro Rosso was able to take advantage of the numerous twists during the race, but this time in Malaysia, the situation was different. Like many other drivers, Bourdais and Buemi misjudged the situation regarding the tires.

An extreme shot, then the intermediates, then the extremes again, no points are logically scored by the team. The Frenchman is still 10th while the young Swiss makes a mistake and ends his race with a spin.

Sébastien Bourdais – 10th:

« We were expecting rain before the first supply stop. It didn’t happen that way. We gambled on heavy rain expecting heavy showers, but it was more of a drizzle. We had to use intermediates. »

« When the rain really returned, I had to put the extremes back on, and after that, the race stopped. It’s frustrating because it seems we were quite competitive in these changing conditions. I would have liked to restart because it was an opportunity to score points, even if it was only half. »

Sebastien Buemi – Retirement:

« We were fine with up to a 7th or 8th place but then the extreme tires were of no use. Obviously, it wasn’t enough for the amount of water, so I spun out and ended up in the gravel. »

We were competitive in terms of speed at certain stages of the race. I am among the top eight lap times, even though I’m at the back because I had to change my front wing. I think one of the Force India cars pushed me wide at the exit of the last corner. I ran over something like a piece of a broken front wing. I’m obviously disappointed because on a day like this, we should have scored some points.
