Saturday: BMW positions itself as the best Manufacturer

With a huge mistake from Scuderia Ferrari leaving Massa in 16th place, it is BMW-Sauber that stands out today in the Constructors’ category. Indeed, against the enthusiasm of Brawn, Toyota, or Williams, the German team places its two single-seaters in the top 10.

Robert Kubica on the 3rd row and Nick Heidfeld on the 5th will try to score their first points of the season. Especially since the Pole should logically have won the last Australian Grand Prix if a certain Vettel hadn’t come along!

Robert Kubica – 11th and 6th (8th fastest):

« I am satisfied with what I was able to accomplish today. There are no big changes since the free practice sessions because the car was still just as unstable and therefore not easy to drive. I did what I could in the corners, but the straights are long here and give drivers using KERS a significant advantage. I have to start from the dirty side of the track and I have some cars with KERS behind me, so it will be a very interesting start. »

Nick Heidfeld – 15th and 10th (11th time):

« Of course, I am very disappointed. I thought I could reach Q3 when I was seventh in Q2, but on my second fast lap, I was in traffic. Two cars in front of me, so I couldn’t have an adequate pace to heat the tires.

Mario Theissen – Director of BMW Motorsport:

« The rain that was expected for the qualifying did not arrive, and the result confirms the image we already had in Melbourne. It’s difficult to do better against the teams with a double diffuser. That said, we must be satisfied with the positions we obtained today. »

« Due to two penalties given to two drivers on the grid, Robert and Nick will start sixth and tenth. For tomorrow, there’s also a high chance of rain, which means anything is possible during the race. »
