What had been hinted at during pre-season testing has become, it is no longer a secret, the bitter reality for the other nine teams during the first round of the Formula 1 World Championship in Melbourne.
Ross Brawn, with his great white shark, designed a sensational car and taught anxiety to all the competition. Moreover, the announcements from the super brain of F1 should finish delivering the final blow to Ferrari, McLaren, and other BMW-Sauber teams.
« We have three more developments in preparation. The first of them will be used in Barcelona », announced the happy director of the team victorious in Australia. With three developments, the 2008 vice world champion Felipe Massa is already hinting at the worst: « If it continues like this, the team will be world champion by mid-season », hinted the Brazilian.
The shock of the first round was so great that all the cost reduction plans have since been reconsidered. Ferrari, for example, has allocated 20 million euros for the transformation of its F60. Renault team leader Flavio Briatore even believes that all teams will have cars with the famous miracle element in Barcelona. However, at that stage, Brawn GP will have already taken another step forward.
The secret of the team’s success doesn’t lie solely in the effectiveness of the often-criticized broadcaster. « Our car as a whole is very efficient. From the excellent aerodynamics to the very good Mercedes engine », explains Ross Brawn. And Norbert Haug is quick to take this as a compliment: « With us, the customer is king! »
For his part, the Brawn GP advisor and test driver Alexander Wurz does not understand all the noise around the diffuser: « It is only part of the car’s concept, but it is seen as a standalone element and exaggerated as such », stated the Austrian.
