Honda Motor Company congratulated its former Formula 1 team on their victory last Sunday at the Australian Grand Prix.
Due to the global financial crisis, the Japanese car manufacturer announced its complete withdrawal from the sport at the end of last year by selling it to Ross Brawn.
However, the efforts of the Brackley team last year overcame the performance of the now BGP 001 by Brawn GP. The cars are powered by Mercedes, and both drivers finished in the top two positions of the race in Australia.
Moreover, the majority of Brawn GP’s 2009 budget comes from Honda, so this season, a part of Honda is still in the race.
Ross Brawn revealed at Albert Park last Saturday that the former Japanese leaders had been in contact with him to congratulate him on his success.
« We are extremely happy that our teammates, with whom we worked until last season, have secured this victory under extremely difficult circumstances, » declared Honda Motor Company in a statement.
