As a reminder, Nico Rosberg was the leader of the three free practice sessions over the weekend. His place on the starting grid was already a small disappointment, and it’s another disappointment in the race. The German is 6th, but thanks to Trulli’s penalty.
His teammate, Kazuki Nakajima, was less fortunate as he was responsible for the season’s first crash that required the intervention of the Safety Car. The Williams team is sure to bounce back quickly as the Sepang practice sessions start in five days.
Nico Rosberg – 6th (finished 7th):
« It was a difficult race, and we suffered due to several issues. First, I lost a few positions at the start of the race, then we had a problem during my first pit stop. »
« The restart after the first safety car intervention with cold tires was very difficult. I had no grip and ended up at the back of the standings. I tried everything with my tires but couldn’t keep anyone behind me. I think that two points (actually three) is a good result even though I am convinced that we are faster than the cars that were ahead of us today. »
Kazuki Nakajima – Abandonment:
« I had an accident on my 17th lap when I hit the wall. I lost control of my car. It was a violent impact, but I went to the medical center as a precaution, and physically, everything is fine. »
« As for the result, a retirement always hurts. The race was really enjoyable, we had a good pace, the right fuel load, and the right tires. So I need to keep all these positive aspects for the Malaysian Grand Prix next weekend. »
Sam Michael – Technical Director:
(a) We demonstrated that our pace was encouraging in the race and when the cars were in traffic, we were as fast as anyone. Nico recorded the fastest lap in the race and did a good job. But we made too many team mistakes today and we will look to do better in the next race in Malaysia. »
Congratulations to Ross Brawn, Jenson, and their team for an impressive result, we will do our best to make sure it doesn’t happen again!
