Fewer spectators flocked to Albert Park circuit this Thursday for the setup of the Australian Grand Prix. This observation is based on recent years as the event has been on the calendar for 14 years.
The poor results with a little over 42,000 spectators for the first day almost led the organizers to release only the overall result for Thursday and Friday to the press. This publication could have therefore occurred only today. However, the directors preferred to be transparent and not ignore this figure.
« I believe that it is the economic situation and the potential debts of families that explain these poor figures, » said the circuit director, Ron Walker to the local daily Herald Sun.
Indeed, the tickets for the four days of the 2009 Grand Prix (from Thursday to Sunday) sold less well, which explains the closure of part of the main stand of the circuit.
Walker added: « But we were only in the negative for about a thousand seats, it’s not even worth mentioning. »
