The future of the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim will be decided in May during a meeting between the circuit’s leaders and F1’s financial chief Bernie Ecclestone.
Hockenheim and the Nurburgring host the German Grand Prix alternately. However, after meetings this week, the future of the event at the first circuit continues to be questioned.
According to official sources at the end of last year, the circuit would need help from the government to ensure its existence in order to host the race in 2010.
Without any assistance, the circuit directors are afraid of showing several million euros in losses if the race does indeed take place.
They prefer to wait for a meeting with Ecclestone on May 20th before deciding on holding a race next year. Representatives from BMW and Mercedes have also been invited to this meeting.
« We have decided to accept the invitation to this meeting. But by this summer, a solution must be found, » stated the mayor of Hockenheim, Dieter Gummer, to the Reuters news agency.
In July 2009, it will be the Nurburgring circuit that will host the German Grand Prix.
