The FIA has once again revised its list of car numbers for the 2009 season because Force India insisted on keeping their previous numbers, which were decided quite early in the winter.
The International Automobile Federation released a revised list last week due to Brawn GP’s entry into the championship. It logically designated the VJM02 as cars 18 and 19, while Brawn GP’s cars would carry numbers 20 and 21.
However, the Indian team wanted to retain their old numbers 20 and 21 because their entire pre-season, in terms of promotional material and merchandise, was built around these numbers.
Brawn GP does not oppose this change, so Force India now receives the numbers 20/21, while to everyone’s surprise Brawn GP obtains 22 and 23. Therefore, there will be no cars numbered 18 and 19 this season.
