The world champion Lewis Hamilton has decided to join the Grand Prix Drivers Association at the dawn of the 2009 season.
The Briton had been under pressure from his fellow drivers for several months to join the organization, but claimed he was too busy to take part in it.
However, Hamilton revealed on Thursday in Australia that he had decided to join the GPDA after talks with the president and teammate Pedro de la Rosa.
“I joined the GPDA,” said Hamilton in response to a question about his position regarding the GPDA.
« I have spoken with Pedro these last few months and I am now a member. »
The world champion admitted that he now feels ready to join such an association.
« I had been thinking about it for a while, but I’m not the type of person to be pushed into something I don’t want to do. »
« I now feel comfortable with the subject and that is why I had good discussions with Pedro. I said yes because it is an organization within which I might be able to contribute, » concluded the reigning world champion.
