David Coulthard has been recalled to be the reserve driver for the Red Bull Racing team in case one of the current drivers is unable to participate in a race.
Red Bull Racing had their eye on Brendon Hartley for the role of reserve driver, but the New Zealander has not yet been able to obtain the super license, which is mandatory for this position.
The team hopes that this matter will be resolved in the coming weeks. In the meantime, it has chosen to use an experienced driver like David Coulthard as the reserve driver for the first races of the season.
The Scotsman retired from being an F1 driver at the end of last season but has maintained an advisory role with Red Bull Racing. He has also taken on commitments with the BBC to be a commentator.
