The FIA commits to reducing the costs of the super license

The governing body of Formula 1, the FIA, announced on Monday that it has agreed to reduce the fees for the super-license starting from the 2010 season.

The drivers were unhappy with the significant increase in the license fee in 2009, which had already been raised at the start of the 2008 season.

But the FIA declared yesterday, Monday, that following a meeting between GPDA members and Max Mosley, it was agreed that the amount for the famous drivers’ license would be reduced starting next year.

According to a statement from the FIA: « After a very positive meeting between the FIA President, Max Mosley, and representatives of the Formula 1 drivers’ association, a proposal will be made to the World Motor Sport Council to review the super license fees for the 2010 championship. »

A super license would reflect the significant cost reductions that will be introduced in the sport next season.

A number of other issues were discussed and the FIA agreed to meet with GPDA representatives on a regular basis to maintain what promises to be a constructive dialogue.

No figure has been given for the new license amount.
