Webber also had a shoulder fracture

Mark Webber revealed that he also has a shoulder fracture following his cycling accident late last year.

The recovery of the Australian driver after his right leg fracture was well-prepared and supervised to allow for a problem-free start to the season.

But upon his arrival in his native country for the season’s opening, Webber, who continues to limp slightly, told the local newspaper The Age that the full extent of his injuries had not previously been disclosed to the press.

He notably stated that, before returning to Europe after the accident, he received some bad news following an examination by a physiotherapist.

« We discovered that I also had a fracture in my left shoulder » announced the Red Bull driver.

« It’s just the way I landed, with the weight of a backpack, which crushed part of the bone. Quite frankly, with the state my leg ended up in, it was a real kick in the nuts (sic!) »

« Fortunately, this did not require surgery, but it made it difficult for me to use crutches and to fall asleep at night, » he added.

He also revealed that he sometimes doubted his ability to drive the Red Bull RB5 for the tests in Spain in February.

Webber, who nevertheless managed to be ready on time, told the newspaper that many people had told him that this test was impossible.

« I assured Dietrich (Mateschitz, the team owner) that I would be at the first free practice session on February 11, but I told myself a few times afterward that it was a bit naive of me to say that… »
