Tyler Alexander leaves the McLaren team

Tyler Alexander, a loyal member of the McLaren team and one of the last individuals to have worked with its founder Bruce McLaren, will retire this month after a five-decade career in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Originally from the United States and passionate about motorsport, Tyler joined Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Ltd in 1963. As a young mechanic, he quickly became one of Bruce’s closest lieutenants and later one of the team’s most famous personalities.

With the expansion of McLaren’s activities, Tyler gradually turned towards his home country by working for McLaren CanAm and on USAC races, before helping Ron Dennis to lay the foundations of McLaren International in the 1980s.

Professional, hard-working and irascible, with a deep understanding of the complex machinations of F1, he has always remained modest about his achievements.

Ron Dennis, president of McLaren Group, paid tribute to him: « Although McLaren represents the cutting edge of technology, we also take great pride and have immense respect for our roots. »

« Very few people embody the blend of these two worlds, like Tyler Alexander does, who started working with Bruce McLaren from the very beginning of our company’s journey. »

« He will have maintained an important role in the development of our car until his departure, through his passion for our sport and his vast experience, his adaptability, and his intelligence. We will continue to extend our warm regards to him, even without his daily involvement in the team. All the staff at McLaren Group and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes wish Tyler a restful and creative retirement. »
