Brawn: « the single-seater works as expected »

After the week of testing at the Barcelona circuit, Ross Brawn insisted that the BGP 001, Brawn GP’s 2009 single-seater, was performing as expected.

The team unveiled its car last weekend and started publicly testing it this week.

Even though these were their first tests, the team recorded good results throughout the week, with a car that demonstrated both good reliability and a steady pace.

The drivers, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, behind the wheel of the single-seater on Thursday and Friday, were clearly ahead of their competitors.

The team has been working on the 2009 car since the beginning of last season. Their focus quickly shifted to it due to the poor performance of the Honda team in 2008.

Happy, Brawn stated that the pace and reliability this week are proof that the efforts of recent years are paying off.

« We are extremely happy with the first test of the BGP 001 in Barcelona this week, » said Brawn at the end of the testing in Spain.

« The team had a very late start to its off-season testing program with only seven days of tests on the car before the first race in Melbourne. The goal was to cover as many kilometers as possible. »

« This goal was achieved this week. The car operates reliably and this is thanks to the staff at the Brackley factory. They did an excellent job during this very difficult period. »

« The single-seater perfectly meets our expectations and the reactions from Jenson and Rubens have been positive, » he continued.

« We have three days of testing in Jerez next week to complete preparations for the first race, and of course, I can’t wait to see how the car will evolve by then.
