Renault concluded its test session in Barcelona today. Fernando Alonso, at the wheel of the R29 for this final day of testing, has worked solidly with the team over the past three days.
A thick fog, causing poor visibility and wet conditions, slowed the team down this morning. They were able to continue their technical program throughout the morning to evaluate components for improving the car’s balance.
Despite a loss of time at the beginning of the afternoon, Fernando was able to complete 64 laps. The team is now heading to Jerez to start its very last test session of the season from this Sunday.
Fernando Alonso – 5th: We had some issues at the beginning of the afternoon and lost a bit of track time. It was an interesting day and we deepened our knowledge of the car. We tested new development solutions. The tests were not focused on performance today. We explored new ideas to continue the development of the car ahead of the season opener. One more test session in Jerez next week but overall, I think we are ready for the first race in Melbourne.
Christian Silk – Chief Test Engineer: « We’ve worked hard this week and have evolved our technical program as we usually do. As we deepen our understanding, it becomes apparent where we need to continue working on development and where we can improve performance. The car performed well this week and the whole team did a good job. The entire race team was present to prepare for the first race of the season. We still have one final test session where we will evaluate the latest developments before Melbourne. »
