The 19-year-old New Zealander Brendon Hartley will be a reserve driver for both Red Bull company teams in 2009 (Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso).
The information was confirmed on Monday by the head of the Toro Rosso team, Franz Tost, as he addressed journalists during the Barcelona tests.
« We (Toro Rosso and Red Bull Racing) will share the third driver. It will be Brendon Hartley, who comes from the Red Bull young driver program, » declared the Austrian.
Last week, Takuma Sato was the favorite to secure the role of reserve driver. Earlier in the winter, he was even in the running for a seat at Toro Rosso. Ultimately, the Japanese driver did not reach an agreement with Red Bull for this season.
Hartley, who finished third in the British F3 category in 2008, recently obtained his Super Licence from the FIA, which is mandatory to conduct winter tests.
