Renault was back on track today at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona in preparation for the new season. Nelson Piquet began this testing session at the wheel of the R29 and completed a very productive day of work. The Brazilian covered 582 kilometers and recorded the 5th fastest time.
The priority for this first day of testing in Barcelona was to maximize running and evaluate new parts. Nelson also worked on setup during the 125 laps completed today.
Fernando Alonso will take the wheel of the R29 starting tomorrow, Tuesday, and continue until Thursday.
Nelson Piquet stated: « This day was very positive and I was able to complete a large number of laps on a dry track. I am now much more comfortable with the car. We had no issues throughout the day and I was able to work well on the setup program. This allowed us to learn quite a bit. I will be back behind the wheel of the car in Jerez next week where we will continue our preparations for the new season. »
Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer added: « It was a positive day, without major issues. I’m happy for Nelson because he hasn’t been lucky with the weather conditions during the last tests. We did a good job today; we ran a lot. The car behaved very well, and Nelson was able to make good progress on the setup work. So it was a good first day of testing. Regarding the rest of the week, we will focus on preparations for the first race. »
