After threatening to withdraw from Formula 1, the future of the Renault team in Formula 1 is now confirmed until 2012.
After the original message from the deputy director, Patrick Pelata, an announcement from Flavio Briatore denied the rumor.
« From the very first day with the Renault team, I have always been very concerned about costs, » the Italian said during the FOTA press conference in Geneva.
« What happened at the FOTA meeting is exactly what Renault wanted for Formula 1. We also have the commitment from Carlos Ghosn (President of Renault) saying that if F1 is more efficient, we will stay until 2012. »
On the comments of the deputy director who stated that the French team might withdraw from Formula 1, Briatore added: « What Mr. Pelata says is completely normal, and we need to have a balance between income and expenses. What he said at that precise moment was completely normal. »
