Bridgestone tires for the 2010 season will be very different between the front and rear sets, mainly in terms of width. Some teams in Jerez this week tested these tires proposed by the Japanese supplier for next year.
This year, due to the reintroduction of slicks along with radical changes in terms of aerodynamics and regulations and the introduction of KERS, the dimensions of the 2009 tires will have much more influence than what was anticipated.
The FIA is said to have asked Bridgestone to modify the width of the 2010 tires, either by widening the rear track or by narrowing the front track.
« We must admit that we made a mistake. We should have anticipated that the rear tires would be a weak point, » said FIA President Max Mosley to Auto Motor und Sport.
The result, in 2009, is that shifting the weight forward helps with the overall balance of the car, but in doing so reduces the effectiveness of the KERS.
« We will ask Bridgestone to change the size of the tires for 2010, » he confirmed.
