Timo Glock set the fastest time on Monday during testing in Jerez, Spain. On this second day of the week, which will have five in total, the rain once again made an appearance, thus limiting the testing.
The Toyota driver, however, is ahead of Kubica’s BMW and Rosberg’s Williams. Ferrari didn’t even complete a lap…
The rain started falling very early, and the track was never dry enough for the use of slick tires. The teams were forced to make the best of the situation.
Timo Glock thus emerged as the fastest driver in these conditions, with a best time of 1:30.979 after completing 89 laps.
The German took over from his teammate Kamui Kobayashi at the wheel of the Toyota TF109. He is happy with his day’s work, despite the bad weather conditions.
« It is difficult to carry out tests when it rains so much. The conditions have again made things difficult today, but at least the track remained wet. We were able to work on the set-up and the tires, » Trulli stated.
« This weather allowed me to get used to driving with the TF109 in these conditions. The same thing happened in Portugal last month. »
Robert Kubica for BMW-Sauber was the second fastest. He worked on setting up options on the F1.09. His day was interrupted by the triggering of a false electrical alarm, which forced him to stop the car on the track.
Nico Rosberg with Williams posted the third-best time of the day, ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella. The latter shows a promising pace with the new Force India-Mercedes. The Italian is therefore fourth with only 54 laps completed.
The leader from yesterday, Sebastian Vettel, took a more restrained approach today. He posted the fifth fastest time ahead of Heikki Kovalainen with McLaren.
Nelson Piquet was, once again, the slowest at the wheel of the R29, two seconds off Glock’s pace.
The Ferrari team was also present in the paddocks but decided not to race.
