A crucial 2009 season for Adrian Sutil

Adrian Sutil from Force India thinks this season is crucial for his future as a Formula 1 driver.

The 26-year-old German, who raced for the team last year after being a driver with Spyker in 2007, claims that he needs to prove his abilities in a more competitive car.

« This is one of the most important points of my season. I really want to show my potential. After two years of driving in the sport, it’s really time to make a good impression and that’s only possible with a good car, » admitted Sutil.

« We had our beautiful race in Monaco last year, but it was just one race and we absolutely need to get back to moments like these. We want to achieve this level of performance thanks to the competitiveness of our car, and not in difficult conditions. »

Although Sutil remains cautious about the car’s capabilities before the tests, he hopes that the technical partnership with McLaren-Mercedes will allow the team to be in the midfield.

« At the moment, I don’t want to say too much because I’m waiting to actually drive the car, » he added.

He will succeed his teammate, Giancarlo Fisichella, for the Jerez tests, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

« But the goal for this season is to score points and be reliable. McLaren is really trying to help us. We have the parts, the engine, the gearbox, the hydraulic system, and the KERS, but all the aerodynamic part depends on us. It’s up to us to develop it as best as we can. »

In addition to being optimistic about the potential of the car, Sutil thinks that the working framework has improved since last year.

« We should have a big advantage in terms of performance with the gearbox and the engine. I am very confident at the moment and the team is as well, which makes working very enjoyable. There is a very good overall atmosphere. »
