A Grand Prix in the streets of Rome in 2013?

Despite rumors targeting an inaugural event in 2011 or 2012, the Formula 1 financial chief, Bernie Ecclestone, told Gianni Alemanno, the mayor of Rome, that a Grand Prix in the Italian capital would be possible by 2013.

According to the Spanish news agency EFE, Bernie Ecclestone wrote in a letter that years of preparation would be necessary for the capital to host the Formula One circus.

He also stated to Alemanno that Rome is one of the favorite cities for a Grand Prix but emphasized the difficulties in organizing a street circuit and the need for a long preparation period.

Ecclestone noted that he is already in contact with the future race promoter, Maurizio Flammini.

« I work with Maurizio Flammini and I told him that if certain conditions are met, there could be a race in Rome in F1 in 2013, » Concluded the FOM boss.
