Nick Heidfeld believes that overtaking should be easier this year thanks to changes in regulations regarding aerodynamics.
In the year 2009, F1 undertook a major overhaul of its regulations, the biggest since 1983. Engineers were invited to create ways to make the races better.
And although there was some skepticism about the large number of changes, Heidfeld seems rather optimistic in view of his first impressions.
He says he was fortunate to closely follow a car during the last week of testing in Bahrain and was pleased with the results.
« I was finally lucky to be behind another car, » said Heidfeld on his official website after his Bahrain tests.
« I feel that the new aerodynamic elements will simplify overtaking, just as we had hoped. I hope this feeling will be confirmed in the coming weeks. »
According to the German, these rule changes have added extra excitement during the off-season.
« The tests this winter were much more fun because there were many developments to follow. There was a lot to learn from these new elements, » he continued.
« You must always find hidden potentials, and that’s what makes testing so enjoyable. Now, I look forward to the next tests in Jerez at the beginning of March. »
