The Italian authorities have ended the legal action against McLaren regarding the 2007 espionage case.
The charges against former McLaren chief designer Mike Coughlan, as well as those against McLaren senior engineers Paddy Lowe, Jonathan Neale, and Rob Taylor, were dropped following an agreement between their representing lawyers and the prosecutor of Modena.
In exchange for not contesting accusations of copyright infringement related to Ferrari data, Coughlan will have to pay 180,000 euros, and the other three men will each pay 150,000 euros.
A spokesperson for McLaren stated: « The procedure in Italy is merely the formalization of what had been proposed long before, namely an agreement. A line has finally been drawn under the present case. »
It is understood that McLaren will pay the amounts for Lowe, Neale, and Taylor, while McLaren’s former chief designer, Coughlan, will have to pay his 180,000 euros himself.
