USF1 could be officially announced on February 24th

USF1, a potential Formula 1 team founded in America, is reportedly ready to officially announce its presence in the sport on February 24, according to a prominent member of the project.

Peter Windsor, a former journalist turned team manager, says he is surprised that Ken Anderson kept his plans secret for so many years.

The British F1 journalist in the United States stated that « the actual announcement of USF1 plans will be made on February 24 ».

« Of course, it is not easy to raise money during a recession. That being said, the recession must be adapted to the changing times and resetting boundaries is necessary. »

« That’s what USF1 is going to do, and that’s what the FIA does with its rules in F1. »

Furthermore, USF1 has considered the idea of having a European base, specifically in Spain. This information was revealed by the Spanish newspaper Diario Sport.

While the cars are expected to be designed in the heart of Nascar country in Charlotte, North Carolina, USF1 would need a European base for testing as well as during the European season from May to September.

The design team could therefore be in Charlotte while the operational team could be located near Bilbao, in Spain.

USF1 contacted the Spanish team Epsilon Euskadi participating in the Le Mans series category. It is located to the east of Bilbao. Epsilon Euskadi is led by former F1 stalwart Joan Villadelprat and Sergio Rinland.

« It’s true, » announced Villadelprat, « but nothing is definitive, there have only been conversations. We must first see what happens with the team. »

Villadelprat, who during his F1 career worked for Benetton, Ferrari, and McLaren among others, stated that he has known Ken Anderson for many years.

« He is the one who contacted me. He thinks the team would need a base in Europe, and he suggested that Spain, the country where winter testing takes place, would be the ideal location. »
