Takuma Sato is in talks with Red Bull management for a test driver position within the Austrian group. He could then support Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
The Japanese driver was not selected for a racing seat in 2009 by Scuderia Toro Rosso, which preferred Sébastien Bourdais. However, he might work for the group since the Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso teams are owned by the same person.
He is reportedly in talks for a reserve driver role with Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso.
The boss of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz, confirmed the talks and confessed that the Japanese still held a real interest in his eyes.
« He has a good reputation in Japan. He could work for us, that would be great. »
Sato is currently studying his options for 2009, with a priority on making a return to racing. He wants his revenge after his Super-Aguri experience, which turned out to be somewhat unfinished in 2008.
