BMW-Sauber, Ferrari and Toyota were hoping for better conditions on this third day of testing at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. However, the conditions only slightly improved this morning as the circuit decided to raise the red flag shortly after opening.
With winds bringing sand onto the track and even with an active cleaning device, it seems that for the second consecutive day, testing is severely limited.
« It’s a bit ironic, this sandstorm in Bahrain, because we came here to ensure more running time, » said Dieter Gass from the Toyota team yesterday.
Kimi Räikkönen was supposed to take charge of the new F60 at the expense of his teammate Felipe Massa, while Jarno Trulli replaced Timo Glock at the wheel of the TF109. Robert Kubica was set to stay in place for the BMW Sauber team.
The three drivers were only able to complete an installation lap before the circuit closed.
Meanwhile in Jerez, Lewis Hamilton is in action for the McLaren-Mercedes team, which has once again opted for a car with 2008-level downforce on its wings.
