Renault was on track again today for this second day of testing in the south of Spain, in Jerez.
The team began its second day of work under good weather conditions. Nelson Piquet was still at the wheel of the R29 on a dry track and was able to continue working with his engineers on the reliability and evaluation of the onboard systems of the new Renault single-seater.
One of the priorities of this testing session is also to focus on the evaluation and development of the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). This work will continue for the rest of the week.
Fernando Alonso will take the wheel of the R29 tomorrow and Friday to continue this week’s testing.
Nelson Piquet stated: « The track conditions were much better today, which allowed us to continue the work started yesterday. We learned quite a bit about the new car and also began working on some setups. Unfortunately, we didn’t cover as much distance as expected and lost some time around midday, but we recorded some interesting data. Good weather is forecast for the rest of the week, so the team will be able to continue gathering crucial data tomorrow and Friday. »
Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer concluded: « The conditions on the circuit were much better today and we made good progress with the car. We worked on the setups and recorded good data that we will validate this week. We suffered from some reliability issues today, but we still had a good running session this afternoon, which was very encouraging. »
